Thomas R. Williams

April 29, 1957 – January 22, 2018

Thomas R. Williams, 60, Altoona, died peacefully Monday morning at home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert D. and Mary Pat (Runk) Williams.  He married Robin Lonsinger on February 14, 1976. 

Surviving are his wife; a son, Tommy (Melinda) Williams of Altoona; three daughters:  Heather (Bill) Wyandt of Clayton, NC, Brittany (Brian) Williams of Altoona, and Ashyln (Hunter) Williams also of Altoona; eight grandchildren:  Jared, Braylon, Alyce, Mackenzie, Ella, Kyla, Hunter and Grayson, whom he loved dearly; a brother, Robert (Sally) Williams of Hollidaysburg; four sisters:  Sue Gorman of Altoona, Mary P. (Bill) Zimmerman of Altoona, Joyce (Matt) Smyser of Altoona and Joannie (Steve) Soldner of Butler; and in-laws, Roger (Nancy) Lonsinger of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Brent D. Williams; a grandson, Isaiah D. Williams; and a sister, Terry Hoover.

Tom was a 1975 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a graduate of Penn State University.  He retired as owner-operator of the Altoona Greyhound Station.  He was previously employed at Conrail and Norfolk Southern as an electrician and at Pacifico Bakery.

He was a member of the Unter Uns Society, the Bavarian Aid Society and the Newburg Fire Hall.  He coached elementary basketball for years. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steeler fan and enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m., on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave., Altoona.  A funeral Service will be held at

11 a.m., on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor George Sanders.  Interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be given in Thomas’ memory to the American Cancer Society, Blair County Unit, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA  16648.
