Thomas D. O’Leary

Thomas D. O’Leary, 76, Hollidaysburg, passed away Sunday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Patrick and Ellen Marie (Lawly) O’Leary. On April 20, 1963, he married Anne Shaw in St. Leo Catholic Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Richard of Harrisburg, and Chris of Altoona; a daughter, Beth (Daniel) Norris of Duncansville; six grandchildren: Brian, Connor, Katie, Erin, Meghan and Kaylee; and a brother, Joseph (Maryann) of Hamden, Conn.

He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick; and a daughter, Suzanne.

Thomas was a 1959 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. In 2004, he retired as a detective for Hollidaysburg Borough after 34 years of service. He then worked as a code enforcement officer for Blair Township as well as security for the Altoona Curve.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he was an usher and on the finance council. In addition, he was a member of Knights of Columbus, Blair County Law Enforcement Association and Altoona Curve Booster, as well as a life-member of Phoenix Fire Company since 1960. He was also an Eagle Scout.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held Thursday evening. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, Father Anthony Legarski celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

The family requests that donations in memory of Thomas be made to St. Mary Catholic Church Roofing Fund, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648; Phoenix Fire Department, 206 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648; or to American Legion Ambulance Fund, 801 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
