Ronald A. Geis

Ronald A. Geis, 84, formerly of Altoona, passed away Thursday where he was lovingly cared for at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.  He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late Gilbert E. and Bernadette (Rea) Geis.  He married his beloved Zerelda D. Bowser on October 20, 1956 who preceded him in death on August 15, 2015. 

Surviving are; a son, Captain Joshua T. (Karen) Geis of Honolulu, Hawaii; five daughters: Janice Gentile of Monroeville, Bernadette (Richard) Paine of Ohio, Pamela (John) Caputo and Rachael (Jim) Hosgood of Altoona, and Kristina (Aaron) Onkst of Mechanicsburg; 18 grandchildren; three brothers: Samuel Geis of Raleigh, NC, Daniel (Kay) Geis of Bellwood and Buddy (Jerri) Geis of Neptune Beach, Fl; three sisters:  Bonnie Baker, Judy Servello and Dorothy Greiner, all of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers:  Gilbert, James, and Billy (William) Geis; and a son, Ronald Alvin, Jr.

Ronald was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of Korea in 1951 and 1952 with the 18th Fighter Bomber Squadron.  He received the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  He retired after 41 years as a General Supervisor at Norfolk Southern/Conrail.

He was a member of the Buccinese Club and the Bavarian Aid Society.  He coached the 8th Ward Baseball team from 1961 to 1964 and managed the AAABA Team from 1963 to 1964.  He loved football and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 8th, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Father Brian Saylor celebrant.  Committal will be at Blair Memorial Cemetery.
