Roger W. Eckardt

January 2, 1931 - December 19, 2017

Roger W. Eckardt, 86, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at his residence.  He was born in Berwick, son of the late Delbert and Lena (Whitmire) Eckardt.  He married Dolores Soltis on June 18, 1960 at the St. Therese Catholic Church. 

Surviving is his wife, Dolores.

He was preceded in death by two sisters:  Dorothy Eckardt and Marian Doan.

He graduated from Berwick High School and had an Associates’ Degree from City College of San Francisco.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.  After he retired from the U.S. Air Force, he worked for the civil service in fuel labs in England and Tampa, Fl. 

Roger attended the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #8612 in Tampa, FL.

He enjoyed making stained glass, and was an avid and competent crossword puzzle worker. He was an active square dancer and was president of his club in San Francisco.

At Roger’s request, there will be no visitation.  A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, by Father Ronald V. Osinski. Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave., Altoona.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Roger’s name to The Knights of Columbus #8612, 1707 W. Clifton St., Tampa, FL  33603.
