Robert J. "Bob" Richardson

Robert J. “Bob” Richardson, 78, of Riverview, Florida, formerly of Altoona, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2020 at his residence following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John A. Richardson and Mary V. (Rockey) Richardson.

On May 1, 1965, he married Doloris “Dee” Fultz at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Altoona.

He is survived by his beloved wife Dee of 55 years; a son, Scott (Denise) Richardson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a daughter, Kelly (Frank) Simmons of Lithia, Florida; two grandsons who were the light of his life; Robert “RJ” and Nicholas; two brothers, John (Betty) Richardson of Altoona and Thomas (Karen) Richardson of Newport, PA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Healy and Carole Reed.

Bob was a 1961 graduate of Altoona High School.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1959-1963.  He served proudly during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bob retired from W.S. Lee and Sons as a territorial sales manager. In retirement, he also worked at VSA Resorts in Virginia Beach, Virginia and at his daughter and son in law’s pizzeria, Formaggio’s in Valrico, Florida.

Bob was a former member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Altoona, and later became a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Riverview, Florida. Bob was a lifetime member and former president of the Unter Uns Club, a loyal member of the Almrausch Schuhplattlers for 50+ years, and a former member of the Brush Mountain Sportsman’s Club and the Bavarian Aid Society. He was currently a member of the American Legion and VFW in Riverview, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, cruising and traveling with his lovely wife, having a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon with family and friends, and living a full and active life.

Friends will be received from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm, Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.  A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, July 9, 2020 by Fr. Ronald Osinski in the chapel at Stevens Mortuary. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Bob’s name.
