Robert G. Leidy

Robert G. “Bob” Leidy, 91, Lakemont, went to be with the Lord Sunday at UPMC Altoona.

Bob was born in Lakemont, son of the late Ira S. and Pansy M. (Cochran) Leidy. He married Mary Ellen Blattenberger on May 29, 1948.

Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years; 3 daughters: Coleen Langguth (David) of Altoona, Eileen McIlvaine (Joseph) of Farmingdale, NJ and Loreen Wogan (Dan) of Altoona; 2 sons: R. Grant Leidy (Janese) of Indian Mills, NJ and Brian D. Leidy (Debbee) of Wellsboro; 16 grandchildren: Taron, Tiara, Kelly, Christopher, Jan, Erin, Olivia, Steffan, Carly, Brian, Mitchell, Janna, Kiersten, Trey, John David and Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren ; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 nieces: Janice McDowell and Lois Rogers; two nephews: Daniel and Phil McCaulley and special friends, Paul and Kathy Vincent.

Bob was preceded in death by two sisters: C. Ruth McCaulley (Reverend Dave) and Miriam S. McCaulley (Bill).

Bob was a 1946 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and retired as custodian for the Altoona Area School District in 1985, after 34 years of service. He was also owner and operator of Robert Leidy’s Greenhouse for over 45 years.

He was a member of Grace Bible Church and was Music Conductor for Youth For Christ and Youtherama. He was a member of Bracha Quartet and Grace Gospel Quartet. He was Music Director for Men’s Christian Community Chorus and Grace Brethren Churches in Leamersville and Martinburg. Bob was founder and board member of Lakemont Park Museum, Inc., and Chairman of the committee that wrote the book on the history of Lakemont Park.  He was also board member of Roller Coaster Restoration Inc. and Central PA Bible Conference. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

In 2014, Bob was interviewed by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette regarding the 1949 Billy Graham revival held in Altoona.

Bob lived a very full Christian life, and glorified God for not only his life, but also for the treasured mentors that guided him.

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona and from 10 a.m. until an 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Grace Bible Church, Hollidaysburg by Pastor Daren Ritchey. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
