Patricia Ann “Pat” Bowers

Patricia Ann “Pat” Bowers, 83, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late James M. and Leona Ann (Fochler) Thompson.  She married Robert J. Bowers on August 12, 1955.  He preceded her in death on July 22, 1988.

Pat is survived by a son, Kent R. Bowers (Diane) of Roaring Spring; a daughter, Kimberly Decker (William) of Roaring Spring; three brothers: Donald Thompson (Eleanor) of Mission Viejo, CA, Michael Thompson (Chris) of Altoona and Jeff Thompson of FL ; two grandchildren: Alison and Benjamin; three sisters: Susan Miller (Patrick) of Reston, Va, Diane Miller (William) of Altoona and Beverly Mueller (John) of Altoona; her fiancé, L.J. “Lou” Maierhofer of Hollidaysburg; a special cousin, Ferd Thompson (Marianne) of Sarasota, FL and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a 1952 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and retired as an interior designer for Allegheny Business Interiors, a division of Wolf Furniture, in Altoona and State College.  Previously she was employed by Bell Telephone, was a sales representative for Mark Advertising, was sales manager for WKMC in Roaring Spring and WHPA in Hollidaysburg and was a marketing representative for Southpoint Housing in State College.

Pat was a true supporter of Morrisons Cove after moving to Roaring Spring.  She became a volunteer with various activities in the hospital, church and community charities.  She joined the sales staff at Cove Broadcasting Companies WKMC AM 1370 in the summer of 1980 as a part timer.  She advanced to full time shortly thereafter. When WHPA fm 104.9 went on the air in Hollidaysburg she assumed those duties as well.

As a part time seasonal resident in the Todd area, Pat was a dedicated promoter of the Broad Top area.  She headed the remote radio studios in Saxton, PA for MKMC AM 1370 every Saturday morning air time for business, commercial and public service.  Bulletin Board news airing was her responsibility.  Jim Everhart was her announcer.

She was active and involved in the founding of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Roaring Spring serving the Cove, Southern Blair and Northern Bedford County.  She added a remote studio in Saxton to serve the Broad Top area.

Pat enjoyed traveling, volunteering at Nason Hospital auxiliary, and spending time with her family and life-long friends.  Later in life, she relived her memories through her many photo albums.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm, Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Committal will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.
