Michael E. Dionis

Michael E. Dionis, 38, St. Petersburg, Fla, formerly of Altoona, passed away Friday in Florida.  He was born in Altoona, son of Edward D. and Judith (Kephart) Dionis. 

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Chad E. (Paula) Dionis of Altamonte Springs, Fla; many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him very much; and many lifelong friends who will miss him greatly.

He was a 1998 graduate of Altoona Area High School.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2003 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Sciences.  Upon graduating he received the Grace Allman Award for high academic performance in the area of Industrial Hygiene.  Michael was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi while at IUP and was on the Dean’s List all four years.  He was also a member of the Safety Sciences Department honor society, Rho Sigma Kappa, which recognizes exemplary performance in the safety sciences.  He was employed by the Dart Container Corporation as Regional Safety Manager of the Southeast Region.

Michael was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate fan and loved hanging out with his football and baseball friends and cousins when visiting in Altoona.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave. Altoona where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament by Monsignor Robert Mazur. Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Michael’s memory to his cousin, Carrie Detwiler, who is battling pancreatic cancer.  Checks can be made out to Carrie Detwiler and mailed to Patrick Miles, 201 Aldrich Ave., Altoona, PA  16602.
