Maureen C. Smithe

July 7, 1930 - April 18, 2018

Maureen C. Smithe, 87, Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday at her residence surrounded by family.  She was born in Queens, NY, daughter of the late William and Margaret (Donally) Carroll.  On May 3, 1958, she married Edgar A. Smithe, Jr.  He preceded her in death on July 26, 2011.

Surviving are two daughters:  Eileen (Stuart) Roberts, and Maura (Mac) Rosenbaum, both of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren:  Luke, McKenzie, Rachael and James Roberts, Adam and Zachary Rosenbaum; and her cat, Callie.

She was a graduate of the Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn, NY and attended City College of New York.  She was previously employed as a legal secretary at Lord, Day and Lord in New York, NY.

Maureen was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was on the Board of Trustees at St. Francis University where she received an Honorary Degree, Board of the American Cancer Society, Friends of Altoona Public Library and the Board of Central PA Community Foundation. She was a member of the Blairmont Country Club, Scotch Valley Country Club, the Hollidaysburg YMCA, and was a supporter of the Central PA Humane Society.  She enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, traveling, swimming and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 5 -7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Plank, Stitt, and Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.  Friends will also be received from 10 a.m. until a noon funeral Mass celebrated on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont, by Monsignor Michael Becker. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Maureen’s memory to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E.
