Marilyn E. Muhlfelder

Feb. 8th, 1932 – July 2, 2018

 

Marilyn E. Muhlfelder, 86, Altoona, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Joseph T. and Edith A. (Baker) Brown.  She married Warren J. Muhlfelder, M.D. in 1979 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Adriene and husband, Douglas Yingling of Bellwood; two stepsons:  Thomas Muhlfelder, M.D. and wife, Barbara and David Muhlfelder both in New York; four grandchildren:  Damien Cordero of Rochester, NY, Sierra Yingling and fiance’, Curtis Mickel of Duncansville, Todd Muhlfelder and wife, Margaret of N.Y. and Andrea Muhlfelder in Montana and a brother, Francis Brown and wife, Patricia of Altoona. 

 

She was preceded in death by a step-son, Jules Muhlfelder; three brothers:  Joseph Brown, Richard Brown, who was killed in WWII, and a brother, John; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Lafferty and Jean Pufka.

 

Marilyn was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School. She graduated from Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, University of Pittsburgh in 1965, and took additional classes at Penn State University.  She worked at Hollidaysburg State Mental Hospital, Altoona Hospital Mental Health Center and more recently, Penn Mont Academy.

 

She was a member of Temple Beth Israel and was very active in the community.  She was President of Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood for many years, a member of the Temple’s Board of Trustees, a member and secretary of the Greater Altoona Jewish Federation, a member of the YWCA, the Democratic Women’s Association, and a member and secretary of the 6th Ward Ministries.

 

Friends will be received Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 10 a.m until 11 a.m immediately followed by an 11 a.m funeral Service at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, PA  16601 by Rabbi Audrey Korotkin.  Interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery.
