June Louise Miller

June Louise (Smith) Miller, 82, Lakemont, passed away Wednesday at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona, following an extended illness, with her loving family by her side.  She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Dean and Dorothy (Estep) Smith. On Jan. 29, 1956, she married the love of her life, Joseph P. Miller, who passed away on Oct. 4, 2019. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Surviving are her two sons:  Terry J. Miller (Susan Keagy Miller) and Robert D. Miller (Susan Conaway-Miller); eight grandchildren: Jason (Ashley), Bobby (Stephanie), Justin (Angela), Jessica, Cameron (Maggie), Janelle (Adam), Courtney (Ryan) and Jade (Jordan); nine great-grandchildren:  Branden, Manuel , Owen, Tiara, Ava, Mahlon, Spicer, Wyatt and Harper; and a great-grandson Bo, who is due in Dec.; a sister, Dolores (Joseph) Burns; two brothers:  Jack and Ed  (Peggy) Smith; two sisters-in-law:  Shirley (Ralph) Fickes and Cherry (Phil) Ringley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved dog, JJ.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jack; two sisters-in-law:  Gertrude Miller and June Smith; and two nephews: David and Dennis.

June was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School. She was employed by the Altoona News Agency and she retired from the Hite Company.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont. She was also a member of the Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and was Queen of her Red Hat Society Group, The Crimson Curves. June also volunteered at the election board and the Altoona Regional Health System.

June loved going to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s ball games.  Nothing made June happier than spending time with the people she loved and cherished the most, her family and friends.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov.3, 2019, at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov.4, 2019, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Msgr. Michael Becker officiating.  Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in June’s memory to the: American Cancer Society, Blair County Unit, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA  16648 (June was a breast cancer survivor) or to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA  16602.
