John L. Casner

John L. Casner, 82, Altoona, died at UPMC Altoona, after a long fight with cancer and other diseases.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John C. and Renna R. (Evans) Casner.  He married Helen C. Sweitzer, August 20, 1960, in Altoona, with whom he enjoyed 57 years of happy marriage. 

John is survived by his loving wife; three children:  Renna M. (Parker) Kenyon of Brunswick, Maine, Carol A. and John W. Casner, both of Altoona; two sisters:  Renna Smith of Duncansville and Betty London Robison of Blue Knob; one niece; and three nephews. 

He was a 1953 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1976 as an aircraft electrician.  After leaving the air force, he worked for Improved Dwellings of Altoona in maintenance at Evergreen Manors for approximately 20 years, retiring in 1998.

At John’s request, there will be no viewing or service.  The family would like to ask that those who knew him remember him kindly and think of him often.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that anyone who wishes to make a memorial contribution would please make it in John’s memory to their favorite charity.  All contributions will be greatly appreciated by the family.
