John H. “Jack” Templon

Feb. 22, 1951 – May 9, 2018

John H. “Jack” Templon, 67, Altoona, formerly of Cresson, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry J. and Evelyn (Shiber) Templon.  On September 2, 1972 he married Patricia A. Fraundorfer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife; a son, John A. Templon of Beaverton, OR; a daughter, Marianne M. Landolfi and husband Guy of Altoona; his beautiful granddaughter, Ellie Grace; a sister, Jeanne Murray of Elizabeth; two brothers:  James Templon of Loretto and Harold Templon of Cresson; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and his dog, Blaze.

He was preceded in death by two brothers:  Robert and William.

He was a graduate of Penn Cambria High School and St. Francis College with a degree in Psychology.  Jack served his country for 30 years with the U.S. Army, beginning with his service after high school where he served in Vietnam and later continuing his service through various assignments with the National Guard and Reserves, receiving many medals, accommodations and awards.  He concluded his service at the James E. VanZandt VA Medical Center with 10 years of service.

Jack was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He was a member of the Cresson VFW and the Cresson American Legion, as well as a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society.  He enjoyed gardening, shopping, spending time with his family and friends and boating at Glendale.

Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., on Friday, May 11, 2018 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc.  1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.  A funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in the Memorial Chapel of Steven’s Mortuary by Jack’s niece, Minister LaLonnie McKenzie.  Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors.
