James Robert 'Bob' McGregor

James Robert "Bob" McGregor, 105, passed away peacefully on Sunday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late James and Mary Alma (Hildebrand) McGregor. On July 30, 1936, he married Nancy Winn Seward at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and she preceded him in death in 2006.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Vincent) Turiano; two grandsons: John Robert (Brenda) McGregor and Charles Wesley (Melissa) Turiano; and two great-grandchildren: Elle Katherine McGregor and John Robert McGregor II.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Cecil, Kenneth and Donald.

Bob was a 1931 graduate of Altoona High School. He entered the military in 1944, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Campaign, and was discharged in 1946 having attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

He retired from the Joseph and Feiss Company in 1977 and was the owner of DeMatteis Travel Service from 1975-83.

He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and was Senior Warden. He previously served as vice president of the Penn's Woods Council of the Boy Scouts of America, president of the Blair Unit of the American Cancer Society, board member of the Pennsylvania Economy League and as a counselor for the Blair County Chapter of SCORE. He was a member of the Logan Masonic Lodge, Mountain Commandery No. 10, Jaffa Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters and the U.S. Senior Golf Association. He was a past member of the Blairmont Country Club, Park Hills Country Club and Scotch Valley Country Club. 

Next to his religion and family, Bob loved and appreciated all of his friends.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Hollidaysburg, the Rev. Jeanne Jacobson officiating. Bob will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Nancy, after 70 years of marriage, in Alto-Reste Park.
