Gregg A. Weise, 47, Duncansville, passed away suddenly Thursday in Altoona due to complications of diabetes.

He was born in Altoona, son of Lester M. Weise and the late Hazel L. (Varner) Weise.

Surviving are his father of Duncansville; two brothers: Michael (Judy) of Altoona and Patrick of Duncansville; a sister, Christine (Greg) of Duncansville; a nephew, Brian (Nicole) Weise; a niece, Colleen Weise; and two great-nephews: Ryder and Hudson Weise.

He was preceded in death by his mother on Dec. 29, 2017, and by the family dog, Libby Lou, who died on Wednesday.

Gregg was a 1989 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School and a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in special education and psychology. He also attended seminary school in Gettysburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Army Reserve. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, Friends of UPMC Altoona and the Blair Concert Chorale. He had been a counselor at Camp Sequanota and was a volunteer for Special Olympics, served as a deacon of ELCA and was a lay minister for Lutheran churches as well as a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg. He was currently the assistant manager of volunteers at UPMC Altoona.

Gregg’s greatest joy in life was helping others.

A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, Bishop Michael L. Rhyne and the Rev. James Rill officiating. Committal will be made privately at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that donations in Gregg’s memory be made to Friends of UPMC Altoona, Zion Lutheran Church Hollidaysburg or the American Diabetes Association.
