Gerald L. “Gerry” Cooper, Jr

March 31, 1953 – March 10, 2018

 Gerald L. “Gerry “Cooper, Jr, 64, Altoona, passed away on Saturday. He was born in Huntingdon, son of Gerald L. Cooper Sr and Pauline A. (Edwards) Cooper. He married Margaret E. Peightal on June 5, 1976.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Pam ( Patrick )  Stehley of  Pittsburgh and Geri (Gregg ) Defilippi of Freeport: one granddaughter, Eliza Stehely: and two sisters, Nancy ( Galen ) Hoffmaster of Petersburg, Bunnie ( Tom ) Frye of Etters.

He was a 1971 graduate of Juniata Valley High School and 1975 graduate of Shippensburg University. Gerry retired from Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School as a math teacher where he was best known as “Sir”. Among his accomplishments, he was named the first Teacher of the Year by the National Association of Catholic Teachers and had been inducted into the Ring of Honor at Bishop Guilfoyle. He dedicated his life to his family, friends and Bishop Guilfoyle.  

He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church.

Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm, Tuesday, March 13,2018 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, 10:00 am, March 14, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. Committal will be at Alexandria Cemetery.
