Gerald F. "Jerry" Papson

Gerald F. “Jerry” Papson, 69, Carrolltown, our precious brother went home to be with our Lord after a long battle with COPD, he passed away April 8, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown.  He was born December 5, 1950 in Spangler, the son of Michael and Helen (Zultanky) Papson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is survived by his sisters Patricia (Pasquale) DiPaolo, Pittsburgh; Janet (Donald) Gill and Carol (Michael) Penrod all of Carrolltown; nieces and nephews Anita DiPaolo, Pittsburgh; Wendy Reed, Elmora; James Gill, Bellefonte; Brian (Alyssa) Gill, Boalsburg; William Kuzma, Carrolltown and great nieces and great nephews.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a communications specialist in Germany and retired from Bell Telephone/Verizon as a lineman and installer. He was instrumental in setting up the first 911 call center in Ebensburg.  Jerry was a lifetime member and usher at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown; social member of the Carrolltown Fire Engine Company; Carrolltown Rod and Gun Club; American Legion Post 506 of Carrolltown, where he was a member of the honor guard.  He was an avid hunter, gardener and enjoyed helping people.  Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions there will be no visitation.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date.  Interment St. Benedict Cemetery, Carrolltown.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carrolltown Fire Engine Company or the John Carroll Ambulance Association in Jerry’s name.   Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Carrolltown.  You may leave online condolences at or our Facebook page.
