George R. “Texas George” Kauffman

April 12, 1945 – May 14, 2017


George R. “Texas George” Kauffman, 72, Altoona, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday.

George was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late George C. and Wilda (Cartwright) Kauffman.  George married Phyllis M. Burns on January 2, 1968 in Duncansville. 

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, children: Deresa Dietzel and husband Jeff, Kevin Kauffman, Stacey Eicher and husband Wade; six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jarette, Chelsey, Daniel, Tony and Tyler, and a great-grandchild, Kamden.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy and Darlene; a brother, Sheldon and a step-mother, Loretta.

George was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School and was a US Navy Veteran.  He retired as an examiner from Juniata Fabrics after 40 years of service.

He enjoyed baseball, especially the Altoona Curve, collecting owls and listening to gospel music.  George was sales manager for the Vicksburg Quartet.

George was a member of Puzzletown Road Bible Church.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m, Monday, May 22, 2017 at Puzzletown Road Bible Church, 316 Puzzletown Road, Duncansville, PA. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in George’s memory to: American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
