George K. Sheedy

George K. Sheedy, 92, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raymond and Agnes (Klesius) Sheedy.  He married Margaret J. “Peggy” O’Connor on Jan. 31, 1948 at St. Leo Catholic Church, Altoona.  She preceded him in death Nov. 17, 2004.

He is survived by three sons: Timothy (Diane) of Pittsburgh; Daniel (Brigid) of Altoona and Philip (DeDe) of Altoona; three daughters: Christine (Daniel) Chobirko of Pittsburgh, Diane (Ronald) Moehler of Pittsburgh, and Marcella (Mark) Agee of Altoona; 13 grandchildren: Kathryn, Elizabeth, Timothy, Abbey, Bradley, Maura, Erin, Ryan, Matthew, Andrew, Greta, Max and Alexandra; and six great-grandchildren Rocco, Aubrey, Betsey, Gianna, Reynolds, and Campbell;a sister, Marcella McCulloch of Providence, RI; and his cat and companion “Stanley.”

He was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School, Parks Air College in Missouri and Denison University in Ohio.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.

George went into business with his grandfather George Klesius, who owned Klesius & Sheedy.  After his grandfather passed away, he took over the family business.  George was appointed to the Board of Directors at Investment Savings Bank on February 18, 1954, where he became chairman of the board. 

He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.  He enjoyed swimming, golfing, tennis and traveling with his wife, Peggy.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, by Father D. Timothy Grimme.  Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in George’s memory to Garvey Manor, 1037 S. Logan Blvd., Hollidaysburg, PA  16648.
