George C. Keller

George C. Keller, 89, Altoona, died Friday at Garvey Manor after a brief illness.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Frank J.and Helen B. (Porta) Keller.  George married Gertrude Stalter on July 19, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. 

George is survived by his wife, a daughter; Mary Ann Keller Wertz and husband Robert of Schaefferstown, two sons; Joseph G. and wife Joan (Glinsky) of Hollidaysburg and Gregory J. of Altoona, nine grandchildren; Robert, Benjamin, Gabriel and Peter Wertz, Tara Scarcia, Jared, Jonathan, Brittany and Heather Keller, a great-grandson; Domenic Scarcia, three brothers; Barney of Duncansville, Steve of Great Bend, KS and Ray of Altoona.  He was preceded in death by sisters; Mary Elder, Ann Rodgers and Helen Fanelli and brothers; Al, Andrew and Joseph.

George was a 1942 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and was a United States Army Veteran of WWII.  He retired as a clerk from the US Post Office.  George was a Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He also enjoyed following Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School sports.  George enjoyed carpentry, making rosaries, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren.

George was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a lector for many years.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm, Monday, December 23, 2013 at The Stevens Mortuary,  Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602 where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church, Altoona by Msgr. Timothy Stein.  Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund or Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School in George’s memory.
