Genevieve T. (Kenney) Stewart

March 21, 1917 to July 31, 2017

Genevieve T. (Kenney) Stewart, 100, Altoona, known to most as “Granny” passed away peacefully Monday surrounded by her loving family.  She is the daughter of the late John A. and Jennie (Fink) Kenney.  She married Albert J. Stewart, the love of her life, on July 7, 1945 in Savannah Georgia.  He preceded her in death on December 27, 1990.

She is survived by a son, John (Lois) of Bellwood; a daughter, Genevieve (Jim) DeGennaro of Altoona, with whom she resided; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild that she just found out would be joining her family in February and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and was loved by.  They all loved her dearly and will miss her smiling face.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by a son Albert.

Granny was very proud to be a 1935 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School.  She retired from the linen supply department of the Altoona Hospital after many years of service. She was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church of Altoona and their Christian Mothers.

She loved embroidering, playing games like Skip-Bo and Yahtzee with her children and grandchildren, and her weekend camping trips up the mountain.  She loved dancing with Al.  When she got older, she enjoyed drinking a beer and eating wings and she also enjoyed drinking coffee and conversation with those she loved.  Her family was the most important part of her life.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave. Altoona, PA, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 pm on Friday, August 4, 2017, at St. Marks Catholic Church, Father Ronald V. Osinski officiating.  Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Genevieve’s memory to the American Cancer Society, Blair County Unit, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA  16648.
