Frederick P. Fraundorfer

Date of Death: 8/8/2019

Frederick P. Fraundorfer

July 6, 1929 – August 7, 2019

Frederick P.  Fraundorfer, 90, Altoona, received eternal salvation on Wednesday.

Fred “Fritz” was born in Altoona, the last of 13 children to the late Frank X. and Anna (Yeager) Fraundorfer. On April 28, 1962, he married Barbara Banholzer.

He is survived by his wife; four children: Mary Thayer (Mark) of Altoona, Paul (Jen) of Harrisburg, John (Terri) of Altoona and Joni (Augusto) of Fairfax, VA. His children brought him many gray hairs and plenty of joy in this world. One of the greatest joys were his grandchildren: Kelsey Brett (Will), Cory and Luke Thayer and Joy, Emma, Alexis, and Grace Fraundorfer.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jude.

Fred was stationed in Germany with the 75th division of the Army during the Korean War. Although he did not see combat, his eight other brothers all served in World War II and one, John, gave the ultimate sacrifice.

After serving, Fred spoke fondly of his time working for the City of Altoona and then began a career working at SKF. After 48 years, he retired to a life of gardening, traveling a bit, tag-teaming with his wife on crossword puzzles, reading, being mesmerized by The Rifleman, Wagon Train, Gunsmoke and any Western. He enjoyed anything chocolate, Sunday rides through the area, enjoying all of God’s creation, and of course, napping.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Unter Uns and Bavarian Aid Society.

Many knew Fred as a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes and taught many lessons to those who loved him. He embodied the saying “actions speak louder than words.” His faithfulness and patience in all things, and his gentle manner will be remembered and hopefully, in some way, be carried on in the lives of all who grew to love him.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until an 11 a.m. funeral Mass, Monday, August 12, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2716 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601, Fr. James Dugan officiating.  Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Fred’s memory to: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Operation Smile, (one of his favorite charities) 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, (another favorite) 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

For those who can not contribute or are just reading this, a simple prayer for Fred would be much appreciated.
