Fred D. Hunter, Jr.

November 2, 1920 – December 31, 2017

Fred D. Hunter, Jr., 97, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Sunday at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Fred D., Sr. and Catherine (Keller) Hunter. He married A. “Clemmie” Chirdon, who preceded him in death on April 24, 2012.

Surviving are; a son, John J. (Adrienne) Hunter, of Pittsburgh; a daughter Denise A. (Wilbur) Walk, of Altoona; three grandchildren:  Andrew Scherzinger, Oriana Hunter and Matthew (Gabrielle) Hunter; and two great-grandsons:  Zachary and Brendan Scherzinger.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clemmie Chirdon Hunter; two daughters:  Susan A. (Thomas) Scherzinger and Mary Hunter; a sister Geraldine (Joseph) Minielli; and a brother, Joseph (Margaret) Hunter.

Fred retired from Penelec as a lineman.  He was an ace mechanic and could fix any engine.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.   

He loved the great outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc.  1421 8th Ave., Altoona where a vigil for the deceased will be held.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Fred’s memory to the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, 916 Hickory St., Hollidaysburg, PA  16648.
