Elden D. Baker

December 2, 1926 – January 18, 2018

Elden D. Baker, 91, Duncansville, formerly of Philipsburg, passed away Thursday at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.  He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Glenn Leroy and Catherine (Harmon) Baker.  He was married twice, first to Marian T. Johnson who preceded him in death, and then to Jean Vogle, who also preceded him in death.

Surviving are a son, George Baker (Susan) of Altoona; two daughters:  Michele Fiore (David) of Duncansville and Gayle Daniels (Robert) of Altoona; six grandchildren:  Nicole Fiore, Sarina Fiore, Angela Daniels, Nicholas Daniels, Alex Baker and Trevor Baker; and one great-grandchild, Luke Daniels.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Baker and a sister, Donna Sanders.

He was a graduate of Bellwood High School, and was a U.S. Navy veteran in WWII.  He served aboard the USS LST487, which earned five battle stars.  He retired as a machinist in 1988 from GTE Sylvania.

Elden was a member of the NRA and the Riggles Gap Sportsman’s club.  He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, being at his hunting camp and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.

At the request of the deceased there will be no funeral services.  Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA  16602.
