Edward J. Strassburger

May 8, 1932 – September 22, 2018

Edward J. Strassburger, 86, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Saturday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

Ed was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Catherine (Letscher) Strassburger.  On June 16, 1956, he married Anna Marie Hopfl in St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Monte Strassburger (Linda) of Altoona; three daughters: Annette Graham and Sheila Webber (Stephen) of Altoona, and Celeste Fronauer (Todd) of Douglassville; nine grandchildren: Crista Spiker (Bryan), Craig Strassburger, Susan Shafer (Matt), Ryan Graham, Justine Clouser (Norman), Haley Webber, Stevie Webber, Max Fronauer and Nina Fronauer; seven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Patty Hopfl of Duncansville.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Clarence Graham.

Ed attended Altoona High School and Altoona School of Commerce and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He retired from D&H Distributing Co., after 32 years of service, as a sales representative selling RCA products.

Ed was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was an usher.  He was also a member of the Unter Uns and Bavarian Aid Society. Known as “Roller” for his bowling skill, Ed bowled in the Fraternal Bowling League and Bavarian League. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and loved talking about players both past and present. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 10 am until an 11 am memorial Mass, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund, 1405 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 in Ed’s memory.
