Dr. George A. Nohaile

Dr. George A. Nohaile, 85, Presbyterian Home at Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Nagib “Jim” A. and Mary E. (Haddad) Nohaile. 

He is survived by a son, Dr. Michael Nohaile (Dr. Kristin Yarema) of Pacific Palisades, CA; a sister, Geebie Nohaile Miller (James B.) of Springettsbury; two grandchildren:  Maeve and Nieve Nohaile; a dear friend, Carol Makdad of Altoona; several nieces and nephews; and Janet Soyster Wilt of Vero Beach, FL.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Nohaile.

George attended Franklin & Marshal College, was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He did his internship at Metropolitan Hospital of New York City and completed his residency at the University of Texas.  He retired as a self-employed oral surgeon from Nohaile Oral Surgery Clinic after 50 years of service.

He was a faithful member of The St. George Orthodox Church.  He was also a member of the American Dental Association.

He enjoyed trap and skeet shooting, fishing and gardening.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a Trisagion Service will be held.  A funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at St. George Orthodox Church by Father Isaac Danevicius. Interment will be at Alto Reste Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in George’s memory to the St. George Orthodox Church, 519 58th St., Altoona, PA  16602.
