Donald D. Pendleton, Jr.

Donald D. Pendleton, Jr., 92, Tucson, AZ, formerly of Altoona, passed away Monday morning in Tucson.   He was born in Altoona, son of the late Donald D. and Barbara (Bolyar) Pendleton.  He married Marlene Mills in Altoona in November of 1949 and she preceded him in death September 24, 1996.

He is survived by a son, Donald “Doug” Pendleton III (Burnetta) of Aberdeen, MD; two daughters: Constance M. Kemp of Altoona, and Laura Pendleton-Miller (Daniel) of Tucson, AZ; two sisters: Gladys Minney and Mahulda Pendleton, both of Tucson, AZ; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Kemp, William Kemp II, Shante Kemp, Brandon Kemp, Brian Pendleton, Ericka Pendleton, Alexandra Miller, Marlena Pendleton, Othell Pendleton and Jona Bittner; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael L. Pendleton, and a grandson, Braeden Kemp.

Donald was a graduate of Altoona High School. 

He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.  He retired from Penelec as a Supervisor in 1988 with over 40 years of service.

Donald was a lifelong member of Bethel AME. 

Donald enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially basketball.  He was a former coach of the East End biddy Basketball Team and had also coached youth league baseball.  He was a member of the Penelec Retiree bowling team, had played in the Sunday Softball League for Consiglio’s and the Arandale Elks teams, was a lifetime member of the Arandale Elks, and a former board member of the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame.

Friends will be received from 2-6 pm on Sunday September 30, 2018 and from 9- 10:45 am Monday October 1, 2018 at the Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona where a funeral service for Don will be celebrated at 11 am Monday October 1,2018 in the Memorial Chapel of the Stevens Mortuary, Inc.  by Pastors Robin Ross and Paul Johnson.

               

Committal will be held at Blair Memorial Park with military honors.
