David Michael Patt

December 4, 1950 – September 26, 2018

David Michael Patt, 67, Hollidaysburg, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday.

David was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert and Jane (Williams) Patt.

He was husband of Betsy (Wilson) Patt, father of Yuri, Katie and Sam; father-in-law to Tyler and grandfather to Georgie and Hewitt. He is survived by his brother Rick Patt, his nieces Maggie, Samantha, Rachel, and Jessica and his nephew Josh Patt.

David was also preceded in death by his sister Judy Patt and his brother Jules and sister-in-law Pam Patt.

David was an adored father, loved husband, treasured brother and uncle. The third child in a family of four children, Dave spent his childhood on a baseball field, in classrooms at Fairview and Keith Jr. High or in Temple Beth Israel. He pitched his first perfect game at age 11 and set many a record that would later be recorded by the Altoona Mirror. In high school Dave took his baseball and basketball skills to Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA. He was an agitator even in high school, leading chapel walkouts and never quite dressing in dress code. He was a believer in freedom and stood up for those who needed it, joining the local League of Women Voters as the first male member and always fighting for the rights of those with special needs. In college he studied English at the University of Pittsburgh where he later pursued a Master of Fine Arts. Dave was a writer at all times; scribbling in the front matter of books and on yellow notepads—some of these poems later found their way to publications. Above all he was a fighter—fighting off cancer for almost 20 years; he never gave up and he never let others give up. He loved words, giant dogs, ice cream, his friends and family; and they love him.

Friends will be received from 6-8 pm, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601.  A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Temple Beth Israel, Rabbi Audrey Korotkin officiating.  Interment will be at Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Adult Training Facility, 3601 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 or Temple Beth Israel, 3004 Union Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 in David’s memory.
