D. Alan Shade

D. Alan Shade, 62, Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly on Friday morning of natural causes at his residence.

He was born in Altoona, son of Donald I. and Shirlee (Green) Shade.

Surviving are his mother, Shirlee Shade of Hollidaysburg; and four cousins: Virginia (Elliott) Goldfarb of O’Fallon, Mo., Sherri Moore of Wyoming, Del., Wallace (Phyllis) Aspinwall of Waldron, Ark., and Douglas (Linda) Aspinwall of Berlin, Md.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1998.

Alan was a 1973 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and graduated from Penn State University in 1977. He had been employed as a machinist in the tool and die department of Kennametal Co., Bedford, for the past 19 years.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, and a former member of Alexandria Sportsmen’s Association. Alan was a devoted son and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his buddies at camp.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Gregory P. Harbaugh officiating. Arrangements are by Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.

The family requests that donations in memory of Alan be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602, or to Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
