Clara Margaret ‘Peg’ Curran-Carey

Clara Margaret “Peg” Curran-Carey, 95, Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday afternoon at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Paul R. and Catherine (Stormer) Curran. On July 5, 1947, she married Robert Sylvester Carey at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and he preceded her in death Nov. 10, 1991.

Surviving are six children: Stephen P. (Lena Warren) of East Stroudsburg, Robert J. of Falling Waters, W.Va., Peter A. (Jane) of Ashville, Michael A. (Wanda) of Hollidaysburg, Patricia A. Brehmer (Eric) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mark F. (Susan) of Hawley; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Carey.

Clara was a 1939 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School as well as Altoona Comptometer School. She was employed in the accounting office of W.F. Gable Co., as well as A&P Bakery Office and Hollidaysburg High School cafeteria.

Clara was a Eucharist minister at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where she was a lifelong member, having been baptized, confirmed and married there. She was a founding member of Blair Genealogical Society and she volunteered as a Eucharist minister at Altoona Hospital.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, Father Anthony Legarski celebrant. Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
