Austin Anthony ‘Autie’ Frank

Feb. 24, 1931 – June 13, 2020

Austin Anthony “Autie” Frank, passed away Saturday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, following an extended illness. 

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Carl G. and Clara Agnes (Hoyer) Frank. 

He was one of eight children and was preceded in death by brothers: Charles, John, Eugene, Rodger and Howard Frank; and sisters: Joanne Wendler and Carol Frank. 

He married Christina Datris who preceded him in death on March 24, 2020.

He is survived by sons: Shawn Frank and wife, Raymalee (Reighard) Frank, and Dennis Frank and partner, Julie Lysic, all of Altoona; daughter, Jeanne (Frank) Ketcham and her fiance, Roland Harmon, of East Norriton; and stepson, Patrick Hilger and wife, the late Jean (Rhodes) Hilger. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Tressa Nolan, Brianne Hilger, Kimberly Noel, Amy Ketcham, Andrea Ketcham and Nathan Frank; along with two great-grandchildren. He also had many nieces and nephews, whom he loved.

Austin was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Proctor Silex Corporation and retired as an electrician from the IBEW Local 5 in Pittsburgh. 

He was in his younger years, a baseball player and played on many teams in the Altoona area. He formerly sang with the Barbershop Quartet, Altoona Cathedral Church Choir, Our Lady of Lourdes Church Choir and the Jubilate Deo choir of Altoona. Austin was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of Altoona. 

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2020, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Father James Dugan celebrant.  Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would donate to the Alzheimer's Association in Autie's honor.
