Arthur A. ‘Art’ Fishbaine

May 15, 1929 - July 21, 2018

Arthur A. Fishbaine, 89, Presbyterian Village @ Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, died Saturday July 21, 2018 at the Village.  He was born May 15, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Joseph and Mildred Fishbaine.

Art is survived by his wife, Lynn (Cohen), of Hollidaysburg, his adored companion of 66 years; his 3 beloved sons: Steven and wife Penni of State College, Joel and wife Susan of Pittsburgh and Daniel of Chicago; 5 grandchildren: Joshua, Arielle, Gabrielle, Elana and Dylan Fishbaine.  Though far in distance he felt close to his wife’s brother, Joel Cohen and his wife Susan in CA.  Art is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sole sibling, Edwin Fishbaine in 2007.

After pursuing two corporate executive jobs, one in Chicago and one in Binghamton, NY, he returned to Altoona in 1969 as Vice President of marketing of a major Warnaco Division.  Years later he was enticed to the financial industry by a friend and after a successful career as Vice President of Investments at PaineWebber retired in 1997.

Art enjoyed playing the piano, often surrounded by friends for sing-a-longs.  His interest in music served him well on the talent committee of the Blair County Civic Music, where, with musician and teacher, Ed McGuire, he helped select musical greats for performances at the Mishler Theatre.  Art and his wife Lynn were ardent supporters of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.  Traveling with Lynn was a special pleasure, together they visited over 20 countries, albeit some for only a day.

Always interested in library activities, Art was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Altoona Area Public Library, serving as President for several terms.  He was also gratified by the time he spent as a hospital volunteer visiting patients at the Altoona Hospital.

Art was a member of Agudath Achim Synagogue and a lifetime member and the first president of the Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library, an organization founded by Lynn in 1971

Friends will be received from 10 to the 11 am funeral service on Monday July 23, 2018 at the E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home 2309 Broad Ave. Altoona, PA 16601. Committal will be at Agudath Achim Cemetery.
